Many people aren’t sure of the steps of doing a bucket test to ensure their pool is not leaking.  At Gator Leak Detection, we often receive phone calls about how to perform a bucket test and what needs to be done.  We have scoured the internet and found a fantastic video from eHow about how to do a bucket test.

The bucket test specifically works with in-ground pools of any type and should be performed on a monthly basis or whenever you feel that the pool is in need of one.  Also be sure to check the weather to ensure that there isn’t any rain coming while you perform this test or you will need to start over.

What to do if the pool is leaking?

If your pool is leaking, it is best to keep out of it and contact a specialist right away.  Leaks can range from somewhat simple to very advanced.  A leak detection specialist can remove the leak and also ensure that it doesn’t come back.  Since there are so many types of leaks, self diagnoses isn’t the best direction for repair. Before doing anything, perform a bucket test to see if there is a leak at all.  After the bucket test, if your pool has lost more than 1/8 of an inch in the 24 hour period it is time to get help.

How often should I perform a bucket test?

At least once a month.  Watch the How to perform a bucket test video whenever you need to for guidance.  This test can save you a ton of time and money in the future.  Just set it and forget it.
